FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flanagan, IL—Flanagan State Bank donated $25,000 to the Agriculture program at Heartland Community College, allowing Heartland to purchase lab equipment, seed, and other key elements for their Ag labs. Ag labs are used by over 100 HCC students throughout the course of a year and support 10 different courses and certificates that help local students find local employment and great careers. In addition, Flanagan’s donation will provide nearly full tuition to multiple students enrolled in the HCC Ag program, making a significant impact in their education and life.

“Heartland shares Flanagan State Bank’s focus on our local community. As the college has worked to expand our Ag program to provide the in-demand certificates and degrees local employers need, Flanagan supported us with a gift that allowed us to purchase new training equipment,” said Chris Downing, foundation executive director of Heartland Community College. “That means our local students will be training with the same technology they will use when they step into the workforce, helping everyone be more successful. This makes our community stronger!”

Ag labs allow hands-on experience for students and the variety of Ag courses, degrees and certificate programs available offer knowledge and opportunity for future leaders in this important industry. HCC broke ground on their new agriculture complex in the summer of 2022. The complex will be 29,500-square-feet and is scheduled for completion in late 2023.

“We’re proud of Flanagan’s long history of supporting local agriculture and were excited to make this investment in our future farmers,” said Audrey Harlan, president of Flanagan State Bank. “As technology continues to advance, we feel it’s important that our local Ag students have access to top training and are able to learn the skills to succeed.”
